What you'll learn

Abertay's MBA with Project Management will prepare you to progress into leadership roles within project management teams. The skills you'll learn can be applied to projects across industries, giving you the freedom to apply your learning to any sector.

Alongside project management skills, you will also develop a thorough grounding in the business management discipline as you hone your knowledge and understanding of strategic leadership in the complex and changing modern work environment.

On successful completion of this MBA with Project Management, you will be able to:

Evaluate and justify the use of best practice theories, tools, and techniques for the creation of successful projects

Demonstrate critical understanding and integration of management and leadership knowledge within a local and international context

Select and apply appropriate tools and techniques to different problem situations in meeting strategic organisational aims

Critically appraise complex business and financial risks, and manage strategic challenges in regional and global contexts, and provide recommendations for innovation and business transformation

Synthesise multifaceted information and communicate in a concise, professional manner to inform decision making

This module provides an in-depth understanding of the theoretical underpinnings and the practical implications of international approaches, models and regulations of managing people in a global context. Through this module you will examine the different models of international human resource management, the major employment policies of multinational companies and the problems that arise when operating in different countries.

Managing a project is akin to managing a micro-organisation. Everything is there – handling budgets, managing people, leading change, analysing and treating risk, dealing with contractors, managing stakeholder expectations, and overseeing all aspects of the project. In this module you will use various tools and techniques to help understand what is going on in your project and to ensure that you develop a quality product, service or process that is delivered on time, in budget and to specification.

This module equips you with an understanding of the complex nature of leading and managing people when implementing and evaluating change in organisations. The relationship between task, people and technology will be analysed in the context of organisational change. Factors that necessitate change and the main indicators of change are critically analysed. Different approaches to leadership are examined, as are alternative models of organisational change.

Within this module, you will learn how to critically analyse the accounting approaches that go towards the creation of financial accounts and budgeting. You will also develop the skills necessary to evaluate common financial control mechanisms and tools to help with financial decision making.

Generating useable data for decision making is a task that needs an awareness of many factors. To be able to do this you need to firstly understand the question being asked and then the data that you possess. Do you have all the data you need? If not, how will you find it? How will you clean it? How will you process it and present it in a way that is beneficial to the decision maker? All these technical questions will be answered in this module.

One of the best known aspects of project management is project scheduling. However, if it is well known then why do so many projects run over time? You will explore what goes into the project plan and how to schedule both time and resources in your project. You will also analyse why so many projects go wrong and seek ways to ensure this doesn't happen in your future projects.

To succeed in the future, managers must develop the resources and capabilities needed to gain and sustain advantage in competitive markets. The way in which organisations attempt to develop such competitive advantage constitutes the essence of their strategy. This module considers the impact of current and emerging economic, political, digital and cultural factors and the relationship between strategy, stakeholder expectations and organisational performance. The strategic implications of e-business and the resulting digital transformation is also discussed.

This module supports the development of effective entrepreneurial, innovative, and leadership mindsets. It will provide you with an opportunity to explore contemporary theories, essential principles of entrepreneurship, and innovative organisational environment in a variety of contexts. You will explore the required entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, and attributes for success.

This is the capstone to the MBA programme. The focus of this capstone will be directly related to any pathway you have studied. Regardless of which MBA you have taken, what you are assured of is a project which will be directly related to an authentic business challenge and you will be able to deepen your knowledge in the area you want to concentrate on.

This module is designed to introduce you to research methods and statistical analysis. Theoretical, historical and statistical concepts are taught using both quantitative and qualitative techniques that allow you to put theory into practice and conduct an in-depth research project.

This is your opportunity to shape the project you will undertake in the capstone module. In the research methods module, you will have learnt different approaches to undertaking a research project and these will help guide you in your management investigation.
