About Abertay University
We place a strong emphasis on teaching excellence and preparing our graduates for the world of work. With roots stretching back to 1888, Abertay has always responded to the needs of industry, supplying a pipeline of graduate talent to work, learn and innovate across a wide range of sectors.
Many of our staff are either actively involved in research or work with industry, allowing us to apply real-world expertise to our teaching. As well as this, all of our researchers are involved in teaching and developing courses, giving our students the opportunity to learn the most up-to-date knowledge from world leaders.
Research with a
real-world impact
The 2021 REF (Research Excellence Framework), the UK's higher education measure of research quality, was published in May 2022.
Our REF2021 submission for Engineering (which encompasses our research on computer science) recognised the quality of our research, with 73% being rated as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.

Our credentials
We have a reputation as one of the UK's leading tech universities, and are recognised as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education (gold award) by the UK Government’s National Cyber Security Centre.
Abertay University have also been named University of the Year for Teaching Quality (Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, 2021), we are ranked top 10 in the UK for Student Satisfaction with Teaching, Course and Feedback (Guardian University Guide, 2020), and are ranked top 10 in the UK for Student Satisfaction (NSS, 2020).
